Interview: elias (part 1)

Hey guys,
today I've got some quite different content for you.
Yeah, it's an interview but in German.
But don't worry, if you scroll down you'll find a translation. ;)

Hallo Leute,

Elias Hadjeus (Gesang, Gitarre)
Adrian Pfeil (Schlagzeug)
Max van Dusen (Gitarre)
Ondrej Homola (Bass)
Johannes Schmidt (Keyboard)

house in the sand: Ihr hattet also auch viele verschiedene Einflüsse.

Elias: Ja ganz viele, jeder wollte seins reinbringen.

house in the sand: Sehr cool!

Elias: Den liest irgendjemand?

Adrian: Kannst du Tokio Hotel mal bitte begründen?

Feuerwerke?

Adrian: Auch!

  .....

Und wenn ihr erfahren wollt, was das für ein magischer Ort ist, dann kommt doch morgen nochmal ins house in the sand. :)

Translation:

Hey guys,
last week I've been to Berlin and met Elias, Max and Adrian from the band elias for an interview.
It all happened at RioGrande, an amazing restaurant next to Berlin's river Spree.
I want to thank the whole team for being absolutely lovely and I can't wait to visit the restaurant again some time soon.

The band elias consists of:
Elias Hadjeus (vocals, guitar)
Adrian Pfeil (drums, percussion)
Max van Dusen (guitar)
Ondrej Homola (bass)
Johannes Schmidt (keys)

The band elias has been existing for quite a while now. The five guys play German pop music and they do that very well.
With lyrics that tell stories and melodies that find their ways into your brain (and stay there for a while) Elias, Adrian, Max, Ondrej and Johannes created their own sound and already impressed with their EP "Kaputt"

Learn more about the guys and find out what they have to say about Tokio Hotel, living room concerts, didgeridoos and more.

house in the sand: To start off it would be quite lovely if you told us how you got together!

Elias: That's a pretty long story! Originally we're all from Köpenik and all played in different bands at that time but we knew each other.
Adrian was in a pretty cool punk band, Max played in a hip-hop combo and I had a psychedelic country band.
At some point I decided I wanted to do something else with all those cool musicians that were the leaders of their bands, practically a super group of the Köpeniker bands.
And that was 'elias and the animals orchestra'. Max once arrived at band practice and said 'alright, I've got someone who plays the didgeridoo' and his name was Didgi and he played the didgeridoo for almost three years.
It was pretty cool. We also had a singer and all found together and now we're here.

house in the sand: That means you've had tons of different influences.

Elias: Yes, Max used to play jazz, Adrian played pop-rock music and I've always wanted to do what's most difficult to do.
Everything had some kind of ethno touch because there was this didgeridoo but we've always played pop songs. And each pop song consisted of five pop songs mixed into one.

house in the sand: Very cool!
I read your blog and found out about the Lukas Graham concert. You were supposed to support him but had to play a full set. What was that like for you?

Elias: Somebody reads our blog? How cool is that?!
Well yeah, we had the opportunity to do that. The people were already at the venue and 20 minutes before stage time we got the call that Lukas wouldn't be able to play because he was ill.
But the people were there so we just thought 'let's do it!'.
We were prepared to play 30 minutes but ended up playing 90 minutes and so many people stayed!
After the third song we asked "Are you looking forward to see Lukas?" and everyone went like "yeaaaah" and we just replied "Awesome! He won't be here today!"
But so many people stayed and that made us really happy. It was fun!

house in the sand: And who else would you like to tour with? Which artists would you like to take on tour?

Adrian: Clueso. I would like to tour with Clueso.
Elias: Coldplay, Coldplay would be cool.
Adrian: Casper.
Max: I'd like to support Tokio Hotel.
Adrian: Could you please explain why Tokio Hotel?
Max: Well, they're extreme. And there a tons of people in the crowd who are so young they can't bawl but scream.

house in the sand: And I even read further on your blog: you played living room gigs. How did you get that idea?

Elias: That was a crazy idea!
Adrian: Yeah, really! I think the main idea came from our management, Manta Ray. Because we said we're in the middle of recording our album but want to give them something to kill some time.
And there was the idea of playing living room gigs.

house in the sand: And how has it been? Did everyone know you?

Elias: Most of the times only two people knew us, the ones who organized the gig. They invited their friends and that was cool because we didn't know them.
We knew some from concerts and have talked to them before but you don't remember every person's name you talked to.
So we got into the car and had no idea what was going to happen.
And there were the most different scenarios - from a massive flat-sharing community party where everyone was dressed up except us, to some very young people with pizza and cake.
You never knew what was going to happen next and it was really impressing to see so many ways of living in such short amount of time.

house in the sand: And in general - how would you describe your concerts? What can one expect when seeing you live? Fireworks?

Adrian: As well. It depends on what we're playing. The acoustic stuff is really intimate.
But I think it's a little journey you're going on. Every song is different and has another colour. And in the best case you're thrown into an emotion when the songs starts, go on a journey and when the song is finished you start another one.
I think it's quite interesting to experience that live.

Elias: It really depends on what gig you're going to see. We play a lot of acoustic and also support a lot of artists where we only get to play the seven biggest songs.
But if you stretch it out into our own concert, it's going to be an extreme film.

house in the sand: Is there a songwriter in the group?

Elias: Yeah, that's Max and me.

house in the sand: Alright, then please tell us - was there any crazy place where you've gotten an idea for a song?

Elias: We've got a magical place!

.....
And if you'd like to know what kind of magical place that is, make sure to visit house in the sand once again tomorrow.
